Who We Are

The husband and wife team of Brian and Melodie Tooley are the backbone of Cherry City Bookkeeping and Tax Service, Inc. Married for 35 years, they bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to Salem’s small business community. As the owner and accountant, Melodie does the number crunching for CCB, while Brian, who joined CCB as the general manager in 2004, provides guidance and vision to the business and to our small business clients.

CCB has its roots in Laudahl & Co., a partnership between Melodie and Bud Laudahl opened in 1985. As Bud entered semi-retirement in 2003, Melodie purchased the business and changed the name to Cherry City Bookkeeping and Tax Service, Inc. in 2007. Bud continues to aid CCB in reviewing tax files and consulting on corporate and partnership accounting and tax issues.

Melodie Tooley (EA 83183, LTC 4590-C)

Melodie began her career in accounting as a bookkeeper in 1972. In 1982 she became a Licensed Tax Preparer, in 1987 a Licensed Tax Consultant, and in 2006 an Enrolled Agent. By keeping current on all the latest changes in the tax regulations and utilizing her experience in accounting and as a small business owner, Melodie strives to keep her clients educated and informed so they can avoid the pitfalls, stay in compliance, and stay in business. To this end, Melodie attends 40 to 60 hours of continuing education annually. Outside the office, Brian and Melodie enjoy spending time with their son and daughter-in-law and 2-year-old granddaughter, Eliza.

Bud Laudahl

Bud has been with CCB since its inception in 1985, first as equal partners with Melodie, and now as retired consultant. Although Bud spends most of his time away from the office, enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and working on his 20 acres of timber, you will still see him occasionally in the office meeting with a long-standing client or consulting with Melodie on some unique aspect of corporate or partnership taxation.

Novelyn Voll (68768-P)

Novelyn, better known as Benji, is one of Melodie’s sisters and has been integral to CCB in a variety of capacities off & on since 1988. She was persuaded to come back from full retirement when the need arose early in the 2012 tax season. Benji is currently working part-time to complete some long-term projects, assist in tax preparation, and provide back-up to reception. When she is not in the office, Benji enjoys spending time with her husband, Dave, their two sons, their wives and their (combined) five young children, as well as riding her motorcycle with Dave, and Brian Tooley.
